November 16, 2008 By: Keith Category: AFC North, Aaron Ross, Baltimore Ravens, Brandon Jacobs, Darcy Johnson, Derrick Mason, Eli Manning, Jameel McClain, Jarret Johnson, Jay Alford, Joe Flacco, Lawrence Tynes, Mathias Kiwanuka, Matt Stover, NFC East, NFL, New York Giants, Ray Lewis No Comments →

The Giants came into the game as the best rushing team in the NFL and rushed for 207 yards and 2 TDs against the Ravens who came into the game as the best at stopping the run in the NFL giving Big Blue their ninth win of the 2008 Regular Season.

1st Quarter

During the Giants’ opening drive, Jacobs hit a wall and redirected to the left side for a 36-yard gain which quickly got the Giants into Ravens territory. On 2nd and Goal from the 1 yardline, Brandon Jacobs dove over a defender to break the plane of the end zone for a 1-yard Touch Down run giving the Giants a 7-0 lead with 8:45 remaining.

Three penalties of 25 yards by the Giants’ defense really helped the Ravens on this drive, but the Giants were able to stop the Ravens from getting into the end zone. Then the Giants blocked the 32-yard Field Goal Attempt by Matt Stover, and the ball was recovered by Jones at the Ravens’ 33 yardline with 4:26 remaining. So the Giants took over at the where the Ravens downed the ball.

The Giants took advantage of the great field position, and Brandon Jacobs ran up the gut for a 1-yard Touch Down run to cap off the drive with 0:59 remaining giving. A low snap by Jay Alford did not allow Feagles to get the snap down on the Extra Point Attempt so the Giants only have a 13-0 lead.

2nd Quarter

Backed up on their own 10 yardline, Ward picked up 47 yards on 2 attempts which propelled the Giants to another scoring drive. On 3rd and Goal at the 1 yardline, Eli Manning threw a 1-yard Touch Down pass to a wide open Darcy Johnson in end zone giving the Giants a 20-0 lead with 7:14 remaining.

The Ravens began at the 40 yardline due to the Giants kicking it out of bounds during the Kick Off. Flacco put a little drive together before the Giants stopped the Ravens at the Giants’ 20 yardline, and Matt Stover made a 38-yard Field Goal Attempt with 4:08 remaining making it a 20-3 game.

On the first play of the drive by the Giants, Jarret Johnson pushed Hedgecock on his back on his way to sacking Eli Manning for a loss of 7 yards with 3:59 remaining which ultimately led to a punt.

On 1st and 10, Joe Flacco threw an interception to Aaron Ross who returned it 11 yards to the 47 yardline with 1:51 remaining giving the Giants another opportunity to put more points on the board before the half.

Eli Manning was marched the Giants down to the Ravens’ 18 yardline, but then he threw an interception to Ray Lewis at the 5 yardline with no return with 0:12 remaining.

3rd Quarter

Flacco had to run it himself a few times to get things going for the Ravens offense, and then as Joe Flacco was backing up from the blitzers and threw it to Jameel McClain at the 8 yardline who ran it into the end zone untouched for a 10-yard Touch Down pass with 4:26 remaining cutting the lead to 20-10.

At their own 46 yardline, Joe Flacco threw a pass to Derrick Mason which went in and out of his hands and ended up being intercepted by Aaron Ross who returned it 50 yards to the end zone for a Touch Down with 0:14 remaining.

4th Quarter

Bradshaw ran up the middle for a gain of 77 yards which placed the Giants at the Ravens’ 2 yardline, but then the Ravens made a goalline stand so Lawrence Tynes connected on a 19-yard Field Goal Attempt with 12:02 remaining making the Giants lead 30-10.

Since the Ravens are down by 20, Flacco kept the drive alive by finding Heap on the Ravens first 4th Down conversion of the drive. However, Mathias Kiwanuka chased down and sacked Joe Flacco for a loss of 10 yards on their second 4th Down attempt with 5:22 remaining giving the Giants the ball at the Ravens’ 48 yardline.

My Thoughts on Giants Victory Over Cowboys

November 03, 2008 By: Keith Category: Antonio Pierce, Brad Johnson, Brandon Jacobs, Brooks Bollinger, Corey Webster, Dallas Cowboys, Derrick Ward, Domenik Hixon, Eli Manning, James Butler, Jay Alford, Justin Tuck, Mathias Kiwanuka, Mike Jenkins, NFC East, NFL, New York Giants, Plaxico Burress, Steve Smith No Comments →

Before I begin, allow me to provide you with this disclaimer…I hate the Cowboys more than any professional sports franchise. Jerry Jones flew his pathetic, injured team to New York, and the Giants showed America how small his Cowboys are. When it rains, it pours…and it’s pouring in Little D. The Cowboys began the game with their second string quarterback, Brad Johnson, and finished it with their third string quarterback, Brooks Bollinger. Johnson was unable to put together a successful drive, and Bollinger only put together one successful scoring drive in the 4th Quarter when he found the wide receiver that was crying after Giants beat the Cowboys in the Divisional Playoffs, yeah T.O. Do you remember when Troy Aikman said the Cowboys have a “great defense” during the Cowboys-Cardinals game? Of course you do. This “great defense” was ranked 10th in the NFL in yards allowed (298.6) and 17th in points allowed (23) prior to kickoff. When was the last time you saw a “great defense” give up over 20 points per game? I guess the last time you watched a game through the eyes of Troy Aikman. I have no idea how Aikman is able to not only keep his job when speaking in absolutes without anything to back it up. FOX Sports doesn’t even remove him from their #1 team. The Giants’ offense put up all 35 points on the Cowboys’ “great defense”. Now the team that was already crowned the Super Bowl Champions before the season began already has 4 losses, it forces them to have to go at least 6-1 after their bye week to have any hopes of winning the NFC East. It doesn’t look like that is happening. Oh well…I cannot wait to hear what Jerry Jones has to say to his pathetic team this week. I absolutely loved how the Giants never let up when they were down, and I hope that Big Blue can continue to dominate the rest of their opponents in ‘08.

Offense

The Giants offense was extremely productive yesterday, but they did have a few miscues worth noting. The offense found the end zone 5 times, but they turned the ball over 3 times. Eli Manning had decent statistics as he went 16/27 which is a 59.26% completion percentage and threw for 147 yards, 3 TDs, and 1 INT. I was really pissed off when Eli threw the interception because of where they were on the field which made it way to easy for Mike Jenkins to return it 23 yards to the house. Besides the interception, the Cowboys’ defense had 3 Sacks and 2 Forced Fumbles which were recovered by them. WR Steve Smith had 5 receptions for 29 yards while WR Plaxico Burress had 3 receptions for 34 yards. Eli threw his 3 Touch Down passes to Kevin Boss, Steve Smith, and Amani Toomer. The Cowboys didn’t want any part of stopping the Giants’ rushing attack because the Giants rushed for 200 yards on 34 attempts which is 5.88 yards per carry. Brandon Jacobs led with 117 yards on 17 carries. Brandon Jacobs and Derrick Ward each had 1 rushing TD. The Giants’ offense put up 35 of the 35 points.

Defense

The Giants defense put on another show for America yesterday. They were just nasty for all four quarters. The Giants’ defense had 4 Sacks, 3 INTs, and 1 Forced Fumble. Justin Tuck had 2.5 Sacks, Mathias Kiwanuka has 1 Sack, and Jay Alford had a 0.5 Sack. Corey Webster had 2 Interceptions during the game, and James Butler had 1 interception. Antonio Pierce stripped the ball out of Terrell Owens’ hands which made me laugh. I was surprised that AP did not give T.O. any popcorn. You cannot ask for better stat lines than this against one of the best teams in the NFL. The Giants’ defense put up 0 of the 35 points.

Special Teams

Carney was 0/0 in Field Goal Attempts which shows you how much of a lead the Giants had. The Cowboys also didn’t have any field goal attempts. Domenik Hixon along with the defense gave the Giants great field position all day. The Giants’ special teams put up 0 of the 35 points.

So the Giants won their seventh game which makes them 7-1. How will Big Blue fair in the next 8 games? I predicted them to be 7-1 after the first 8 games, and they are 7-1. I got 2 games wrong so far because I had the Giants beating the Browns but losing to the Steelers. I predicted the Giants to be 5-3 down the stretch giving them a 12-4 record. The Giants will travel to Philly to take on the Eagles on Sunday Night Football.

Week 9 PostGame: Cowboys 14 - Giants 35

The Cowboys were marching down the field as Barber kept moving the chains, but then Brad Johnson threw an interception to Corey Webster along the right sideline and he ran it out of bounds at the 48 yardline with 2:48 remaining.

The Giants ate up 1:20 as they went on a five play scoring drive before the end of the first half, and Eli Manning found Amani Toomer in the middle of the end zone for a 11-yard Touch Down with 1:28 remaining.

As the Cowboys were trying to put some points on the scoreboard before Halftime, Brad Johnson got sacked by Jay Alford and Justin Tuck for a loss of 7 yards on 2nd and 10 with 1:09 remaining.

3rd Quarter

The Cowboys replaced Johnson with Bollinger, and Brooks Bollinger threw an interception to James Butler on his first pass attempt as Butler returned it to the Cowboys’ 18 yardline with 14:06 remaining.

It only took the Giants two running plays by Jacobs to reach the end zone, and Brandon Jacobs ran up the middle breaking three tackles for a 12-yard Touch Down run with 13:16 remaining.

Bollinger handed the ball off to Barber who gained 3 yards before Barber lost 12 yards on the next reception which set up a 3rd and 19 where Justin Tuck and Fred Robbins sacked Brooks Bollinger for a loss of 9 yards with 11:51 remaining which forced the Cowboys to punt from their own 2 yardline.

The Giants second possession resulted in a Punt.

The Cowboys third possession resulted in a Punt.

With 7:31 remaining, DeMarcus Ware knocked the ball out of Eli Manning’s hands on the first play of the drive and James Bradie fell on it at the 25 yardline.

4th Quarter

The Cowboys were finally able to put a successful scoring drive together as they went 75 yards, and they capped it off when Brooks Bollinger hooked up with Terrell Owens in the left side of the end zone for an 8-yard Touch Down pass with 14:07 remaining.

The Giants immediately retaliated on their next possession as Jacobs had a huge 31-yard run which moved the Giants into Cowboys’ territory, and Derrick Ward ran 17 yards up the middle for a Touch Down on 2nd and Goal with 8:20 remaining.

The Cowboys fifth possession began at the 33 yardline. With 7:32 remaining, Mathias Kiwanuka came around and sacked Brooks Bollinger from the blindside for a loss of 4 yards on a drive which ultimately led to a punt.

Wrap Up

Eli Manning went 16/27 and threw for 147 yards, 3 TDs, and 1 INT.

Brandon Jacobs led in Rushing Attempts and Rushing Yards with 17 and 117 respectively.

Steve Smith led in Receptions with 5 and Plaxico Burress led in Receiving Yards with 34.

Brandon Jacobs and Derrick Ward each had a Rushing TD, and Kevin Boss, Steve Smith, and Amani Toomer each had 1 Receiving TD.

My Thoughts On Giants Victory Over Rams

September 15, 2008 By: Keith Category: Ahmad Bradshaw, Amani Toomer, Antonio Pierce, Brandon Jacobs, Derrick Ward, Domenik Hixon, Eli Manning, Fred Robbins, Jay Alford, John Carney, Justin Tuck, Marc Bulger, NFC East, NFC West, NFL, New York Giants, Plaxico Burress, St. Louis Rams No Comments →

The best part of yesterday’s game between the Giants and the Rams was the final score which was 41-13. The Road Warriors went out to St. Louis seeking their 11th consecutive road win, and 12th if you include the Super Bowl. The G-MEN dominated the Rams in every way except for points during most of the game.

Offense

Eli Manning had a solid game as he went 20/29 which is a 68.96% completion percentage and threw for 260 yards and 3 TDs. Amani Toomer and Plaxico Burress both were key contributors in the Giants aerial attack as they combined for over 150 receiving yards. The ‘running back by committee’ had a solid outing as they combined for over 200 yards. Brandon Jacobs and Derrick Ward wore down the Rams’ defense. In the 4th Quarter, Ahmad Bradshaw ran into the end zone untouched once for a 31-yard TD run. The Bradshaw TD run was beautiful to watch because nobody got a hand on him. With all of that said, the Rams were able to keep the Giants from not getting into the end zone too much until the 4th Quarter when the Giants torched them for 3 TDs, one of which was a defensive touch down. The Giants’ offense put up 28 of the 41 points.

Defense

Big Blue was able to apply pressure on Marc Bulger all day. Justin Tuck was a beast as usual and finished the day with 3 Tackles, 2 Sacks, and 1 Interception that he returned for a Touch Down. Fred Robbins also had 2 Sacks which were his first sacks of the season. Antonio Pierce and Jay Alford also got to Bulger once. I really enjoyed the AP sack also because nobody even touched him as he went right up the middle. The Rams’ offense was unable to stop the Giants’ defense. The Giants’ defense put up 7 of the 41 points.

Special Teams

John Carney was 2/2 in Field Goal Attempts. Domenik Hixon was solid returning Kickoffs and Punts. The Giants’ special teams put up 6 of the 41 points.

So the Giants won their first two games. Big Blue turned this one into a blow out. You would’ve never known how close this game was in the 4th Quarter by looking at the final score. Next on the schedule are the Cincinnati Bengals.

Week 2 PostGame: Giants 41 - Rams 13

When the Giants were in their 2:00 offense, John Carney drilled a 33-yard Field Goal Attempt with 0:02 remaining.

3rd Quarter

With 8:48 remaining, Eli Manning marched the Giants 97 yards down the field prior to throwing a 10-yard Touch Down pass to Amani Toomer who caught the ball with a man hanging on him in the middle of the end zone.

Victor Adeyanju sacked Eli Manning on 2nd and 17 for a loss of 8 yards with 1:49 remaining.

4th Quarter

With 7:18 remaining, Eli Manning countered the Rams’ 4th Quarter Touch Down with one of his own as he completed an 18-yard Touch Down pass to Ahmad Bradshaw on the right side, and Bradshaw ran down the right sideline and into the end zone.

Jay Alford sacked Marc Bulger for a loss of 7 yards with 3:06 remaining.

David Carr actually took over for Manning after the 2:00 Warning, and Carr took a few knees to wrap this game up.

Thursday’s Giants News: Shockey Expected to Return to NY

June 05, 2008 By: Keith Category: David Tyree, Jay Alford, Jeremy Shockey, Lawrence Taylor, Michael Strahan, NFC East, NFL, New York Giants, OTAs, Renaldo Wynn, Tom Coughlin No Comments →

NFL.com put together a list of the ‘Top 10 pass rushers in NFL history’.  Before I opened it, I thought about how many Giants were on the list.  Obviously, I thought of LT and Michael Strahan.  I wasn’t sure of how many there could be before my time, which isn’t long ago.  When I opened up the list, there weren’t any more Jints than the two I assumed.  Taylor was 3rd which doesn’t make sense to me, and Strahan was 7th.  They have Deacon Jones 1st, but I’ve never seen him play.  The late Reggie White is 2nd, and I always though LT was better than White.  Plus, LT has 2 rings and White has 1.  At the same time, I’m comparing a LB to a DE.  The article contains three videos for each member of the Top 10 list if you want to check them out.

Mailbag for June 4 - Michael Eisen fields questions posed by Giants‘ fans.  Here’s a good question because the last thing I want to watch this year is the Super Bowl hangover:

Michael,
Tom Coughlin was on the staff  the last time the Giants won the Super Bowl. They didn’t make the playoffs after the 1991 season. What will he do, and how will keep the team focused, and not have the team letdown during this upcoming season?

Dear Russell:

The Coach is well aware of the pitfalls that claim the repeat aspirations of most recent Super Bowl champions. He has reminded the players that the hard work they put in last offseason led to their championship and the importance of not letting up this year. In fact, as he handed each player his Super Bowl ring last week, Coughlin said, “Let’s get back to work so we can do this again.” The coach is not letting up one inch or ounce. He is demanding the same dedication to effort and detail that proved so successful last season. The ring ceremony was the last event of the 2007 season. Everyone’s energy is now committed to making 2008 a successful year.

After Super Bowl grab, David Tyree is hoping to hang on with Giants - Ralph Vacciano believes that the “Giants are overloaded at receiver, which could put Tyree’s roster spot in jeopardy if he suffers any setbacks.”

Giants to see Jeremy Shockey soon - Ralph Vacchiano stated that Jeremy Shockey is actually supposed to make it up to New York next week.

The enigmatic tight end is expected to participate in the Giants’ mandatory mini-camp next week, according to a team source. He is due in the New York area later this week for a promotional appearance on Saturday afternoon.

According to an advertisement on the Internet, Shockey is scheduled to appear at the Powerade Pro Challenge at Flushing Meadows Corona Park, although his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, could not be reached to confirm his client’s plans. If Shockey shows up, it will be his first public appearance since he was stuck watching Super Bowl XLII from a luxury box because of his broken leg.

The Pro Bowl will kick off at 4:30 p.m. ET.  It will be held at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii.  It is the last NFL game until September so enjoy it.  It is tough to enjoy because it is meaning less.  The offseason is long and boring.  It is tough to watch the NBA and the NHL during the regular season because half of the league makes the Playoffs so they have no reason to try until the Playoffs.  March Madness is usually great.  Then there’s almost an entire baseball season before the NFL starts up again.  I wish the NFL went year round.  They could because they only play once a week anyway.
