Super Bowl Champs Won 3 ESPYs

July 17, 2008 By: Keith Category: NFC East, NFL, New York Giants, Super Bowl XLII No Comments →

The ESPYs were held out in L.A. last night, and the Giants ended up winning three ESPY Awards:

  • Best Game
  • Best Upset
  • Best Play

Tiger Woods also ended up winning three ESPYs so he tied the Giants for the most awards won last night. That’s too bad because I wish my boys in blue walked out of there with the most ESPYs. Congrats to the Giants…it’s well deserved for the greatest Super Bowl ever.

Ralph Vacchiano of The Blue Screen is keeping us up-to-date with all of the Giants’ post-Super Bowl books…

  • Giant: The Road to the Super Bowl by Plaxico Burress (with Jason Cole) - It is available in stores now. Also, Burress will be at Book Revue in Huntington, NY for a book signing on Wednesday, July 9 at 7 p.m. if you live nearby and want to stop by.
  • Eli Manning: The Making of a Quarterback - It won’t be available for another few weeks, but you can pre-order it.
  • More Than Just The Catch by David Tyree (with Kim Daniels) - Due out this fall.
  • A Team to Believe In: Our Journey to the Super Bowl Championship by Tom Coughlin (with Brian Curtis) - Due out this fall.
  • Inside the Helmet: Hard Knocks, Pulling Together and Triumph as a Sunday Afternoon Warrior by Michael Strahan (with Jay Glazer) - Was released in 2007 and is being re-released with new sub titles and additional chapters.
  • The GM: A Football Life, a Final Season, and a Last Laugh by Tom Callahan (written with Ernie Accorsi’s help) - Was released in 2007 and is being re-released with new sub titles and additional chapters.

That’s quite a list. Hopefully all of the writing has no effect on my boys when the season comes around. Definitely check out some of those books, and feel free to let us know how they are.

Super Bowl XLII Helmets on Display at Sports Museum of America

July 05, 2008 By: Keith Category: David Tyree, Eli Manning, Hall of Fame, Jonathan Tisch, NFC East, NFL, New York Giants, Super Bowl XLII No Comments →

According to Giants.com, you can go see the helmet against which New York Giants’ wide receiver David Tyree pinned the ball making “the catch”, and the helmet of quarterback and Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning at the Sports Museum of America (SmA) (www.sportsmuseum.com) located in historic Lower Manhattan. The Sports Museum of America will display the helmets, which are on loan from the New York Giants through the summer before they permanently move to The Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH this fall.

Jonathan Tisch said, “David Tyree’s catch and the Cinderella story of the New York Giants have already become the stuff of Super Bowl legend. We are thrilled to be able to share with our fans an intimate look at the fabled helmets right here in New York City at the Sports Museum of America.”

The Founder and CEO of Sports Museum of America, Phillip Schwalb, had this to say, “This exhibit is exactly what we’ve set out to do – bring sports history directly, and personally, to the fans as it’s happening. There are great new moments in sports being made every week, and we are proud that thousands of visitors from around the world can view these artifacts and celebrate the magical, historic moment they represent.”

NY Giants Nominated for 6 ESPYs

July 02, 2008 By: Keith Category: AFC East, David Tyree, Eli Manning, NFC East, New England Patriots, Super Bowl XLII, Tom Coughlin No Comments →

Giants.com just revealed that the New York Giants were nominated for six ESPYs in this year’s sixteenth annual ESPN awards show.  The Giants nominations came in for:

  • Best Upset - Giants-Patriots
  • Best Team
  • Best Game - Super Bowl XLII
  • Best Play -David Tyree’s Catch
  • Best Coach-Manager - Tom Coughlin
  • Best NFL Player - Eli Manning

I agree with the Best Upset, Best Team, Best Game, and Best Play.  I’m a little confused about the Best Coach and the Best NFL Player.  It seems strange that the Best Coach would be a coach that pulled off the Best Upset, right?  Same thing with Eli.  ESPN also contradicts themselves about the Giants being the Best Team because they put them 6th in their Power Rankings.  Go figure.  If Coughlin is the best coach then why did Tiki retire?

The 2008 ESPYs co-presented by HUMMER and Under Armour, hosted by Justin Timberlake, will be televised Sunday, July 20 at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN/ESPN HD.  For the fifth consecutive year, fans will determine the winners in 37 categories (excluding special awards) by voting online at www.espys.tv and, for the first time, via mobile phone at www.espn.mobi. This process will run between July 1 and July 12 at 11:59 p.m. EST.

For a full list of nominations, go to www.espnmediazone.com or www.espys.tv.

Be sure to go and vote for the Giants in all of their categories at www.espys.tv.

Tuesday’s Giants News: Super Bowl XLII Rings Revealed

April 01, 2008 By: Keith Category: Jared Lorenzen, NFC East, NFL, New York Giants, Osi Umenyiora, Super Bowl XLII, Washington Redskins Comments Off

New York Giants Super Bowl XLII RingThe decriptions and the images of the ring have been released.  The Giants worked together to come up with something that they liked.  They liked white gold and diamonds.  The 3 Lombardi Trophies represent the amount of Super Bowls the Giants have won.  It always confuses me when the NFL disregards the accomplishments prior to the Super Bowl era because it doesn’t happen in MLB, NBA, or NHL.  I would definitely like to walk around rocking that.

Giants.com:

Giants unveil Super Bowl Ring - Michael Eisen wrote that the Giants unveiled the design of their Super Bowl ring today.  The ring will be made by Tiffany & Co. and will feature white gold, diamonds and three Super Bowl trophies, one for each of the Giants’ victories in the title game.  Eisen went on to explain the rings, and there is a photo if you would like to check out the bling.

Giants to host Redskins - Giants.com pointed out that the Giants will begin their 2008 season vs. the Redskins on Thursday, September 4th.

New York Daily News:

Lorenzen signs one-year tender offer - Ralph Vacchiano reported that Jared Lorenzen re-signed with the Giants yesterday, when he signed the one-year tender offer worth $927,000 they gave him in February.
